Introduction
There was a man called Antiochus IV Epiphanes (reigned 175–164 BC).
Antiochus IV Epiphanes (reigned 175–164 BC) was a Seleucid king known for his theatrical personality, aggressive Hellenization policies, and a dramatic rise to power characterized by political maneuvering and deception. He is particularly infamous for the “abomination of desolation” in Jerusalem and for nearly conquering Egypt before being forced to withdraw by Rome.
Rise to Power: Deception and Intrigue (175 BC)
Antiochus IV was the younger son of Antiochus III the Great. He was not the direct heir to the throne, as his older brother, Seleucus IV Philopator, was reigning.
Antiochus IV and Cleopatra I
Cleopatra I Syra (c. 204–176 BC) was the sister of Antiochus IV, not his wife. She was the daughter of Antiochus III.
Role in Egypt: Cleopatra I acted as a bridge between the two empires and, upon her husband’s death, ruled as regent for her son, Ptolemy VI Philometor, acting as a “queen-mother” until her death in 176 BC.
Antiochus IV was described by the scripture as him as a vile and morally bankrupt man—cruel, authoritarian, and untrustworthy. He was an embodiment of evil and a clear type of the antichrist spirit.
Antiochus opposed righteousness and resisted the mention of the name of Jesus. He thrived on wickedness and sought to suppress good works. Yet, Daniel 11:32 declares that “the people who know their God shall be strong and do exploits.” Against all odds, such men are defeated—not by physical strength, but by men and women who truly know their God.
Only those filled with the Spirit of God can confront and overcome such evil forces. Despite his schemes (Daniel 11:27–29), Antiochus could not prevail against those who stood firm in God.
What You Must Be Careful Of
- Overly ambitious people – They may speak sweetly, but their hearts are full of evil.
- Chameleon spirits – People who change colors depending on convenience.
- Rabble-rousers – Those who stir up dissension and division.
- Perverters of righteousness – Those who twist truth and justice for selfish gain.
How Can We Attain Victory?
Victory comes through in-depth knowledge of God—not fake, shallow, or theoretical knowledge.
This knowledge is built through:
- Daily walk with God
- Genuine fellowship
- Deep intimacy with Christ
It is not an idea of God, but a living relationship with Him.

- John 15:15 – They are called friends of God.

2. Knowledge That Produces Fellowship and Intimacy
- This kind of knowledge transforms believers from mediocrity to excellence.
- Acts 6:15 – Their countenance reflects God’s glory.
- Acts 26:19 – They are obedient to heavenly visions.
3. Willingness to Stand with Christ to the End
- They are not afraid of persecution or martyrdom.
- They enjoy divine protection and success.
- Joshua 1:8 – Success flows from meditation on God’s Word.
- Zechariah 8:23 – People seek godly counsel from them.
- Galatians 2:20 – Christ lives in them.
- Isaiah 60:1–2 – God’s glory rises upon them, drawing others.
Only those who truly know Christ will achieve lasting success and do exceptional exploits.
Prayers
- Father, grant me grace in the marketplace to withstand challenges and walk in victory.
- My Father and my Lord, every power manipulating my environment to hinder my progress and advancement—scatter them now.
- Every power misrepresenting me in places of glory and honor, Father, judge them now.
(1 Kings 2:19–20) - Every gang-up against my progress, let them be defeated, O Lord.
- Father, every exploit You have planned for me—I will actualize it in Jesus’ name.
